It All Started With A Panda Dream....

2013 has definitely been a year of many changes and growth for me.  I started a new college, I made a plethora of new friendships, I'm developing my skills in my craft of sewing, and most importantly I've grown a closer relationship with God.  Although, I don't have much fan base Im so proud of myself for the time and hard work Ive put into this blog. Especially with all my support Ive gotten from friends and family.  This blog and year was a huge milestone of self-discovery, of both good and bad. I can't wait to see what God has in store for me in 2014 ! See you next blog post... God Bless !

Paisley Goes Again

I hope everyone had an awesome Christmas as it came and went. Now Im eager to see what the new year will have in store for me. More blessings I hope. In the mean time I plan to still enjoy the rest of my break before school starts back again.  For my look I bagged both these studded boots (similar on sale here!)  and cheetah print blouse last year at Lane Bryant. And these paisley pants, which Ive worn on a past post I bought earlier this year on a thrift run.

Red Wine & Gold

Its starting to become a little more challenging pulling off my ideal outfit shoots with colder weather especially since I'm playing both camera person and model.  Having on these awesome but thin printed pants doesn't help me out either! But it was all worth it.  This was the outfit I wore to my visual merchandising class fashion show a couple weeks ago, though it wasn't as cold that night as it was during this shoot. Velvet is such an awesome and versatile fabric to wear and I love its stretchability.  Pairing it up with these thrifted gold pants makes this a cool and bold outfit combination. Adding a knit vest I thought would be a nice touch for some layering.  And my mustache earrings are LOVEEE !  What fashion fabrics are you guys most attracted to this season?

Ease To The Mind

Sorry for the absence. But this has been one long of a school semester. (*takes breath*) With projects, studying for exams, organizing a class fashion show which was a success, and managing to find sleep in between the madness I am so glad to be finally home for Christmas break. In the midst of my hectic semester was producing a final project outfit in my sewing class. Using a Vogue pattern I made a collard blouse and pants featuring a zipper and hook and eye closure. I aced the project. Its a little baggy but I'm so happy to have learned how to sew an whole outfit of my own. I know this is only the beginning of my sewing journey. Oh I can't wait till I start my draping class !

An Anomalous

Anomaly: something different, abnormal, peculiar, or not easily classified

Oh fall has definitely arrived, especially here on campus. Making it the perfect season to have my hair straightened. (*Flips Hair*) This hairstyle lasts longer without my hair gradually converting back to its natural state so quickly compared to hot weather. (SO ANNOYING!)  During this time every year I continue to wear any color that flows with my mood in the moment.  However dark color tones of burgundy seems to be what I've been attracted to the most lately.  I knew on my thrift run a couple of weeks ago with Jasmine I had to bag both this velvet blouse (similar thrifts here! and here!) and this printed men shirt and layer it together. Over sized clothing are always my go to pieces whenever the cold starts to set in.  What fashionable trends and colors are you guys in the mood for this fall?

Plaid Memory Throwback

"We worry too much about what others say, we need to worry more about what God says."

The last time I wore this vest with the matching skirt was in the fifth grade for picture day and I was ridiculed for it. Because of my weight, how I looked, and for wearing such an outfit. I never wore it again since.  Last week when I went home for fall break and tried it on to see if it fit, all the low self-esteem memories tied to this vest came flourishing back. Now that I am older with my own voice, my own mind, and my own style I could care less now what other people think of me. As I got older I learned that other people's opinion do not define YOU.  I don't wear clothes or do things to benefit other people. This blog, my style, and my words are my way of articulating who I am as a person.   As individuals we should all be inclined to embrace our own uniqueness that God gave us.

On another note, I love the season fall and how beautifully and so suddenly the leaves change !  That alone gives me inspiration for location shoots to do everywhere on campus.  After rummaging through winter clothes and rediscovering this vest I wanted to pair it up with other dark fall-like colored pieces, pair prints, and experiment a bit like I mentioned before with some layering.  I think I greatly accomplished all three.  And these polka-dot shoes though ! My soul has been waiting for me to pair up an outfit for them to flow with.  My best friend Jasmine gave them away to me last year.  I knew as soon as she took them out the box they were mine.....(evil laughs).

Owls & Bricks

A week ago for my visual merchandising class I had a visual display assignment with my partner Jen at Ivy & Leo retail store.  Majority of the time on campus I'm usually looking like a comfortable college bum while going to my classes. But since I was stepping off campus for this assignment I decided to take the effort to actually look nice that day with this ensemble. Cute and stretchy were my goals with this look while keeping in mind I will be manipulating heavy mannequins and other merchandise around the store. It was somewhat of a sunny but cool day so I put on my favorite cardigan to not to air out too much.

The flowiness and the uneven balance is what attracts me to fishtails tops other than the various colors they come in. These shorts I paired it with are LOVE to me! They are made of a soft spandex and elastic side panel material that shapes around my stomach and bottom half perfectly.   Although its the month of October, I think I can still get some more wears out of this outfit due to all of this 80-degree weather we have been having here in North Carolina.  Yet I find myself rooting for some cold weather to take its effect.  I cant wait to dust off my winter clothes so I can experiment a little with some layering !
